Loki star Tom Hiddleston has expressed his delight that the Marvel show has been renewed for a second season.
The Disney+ series confirmed the news during a mid-credits scene in this week’s season one finale, which came after a host of dangling threads were left in a huge cliffhanger.
Reacting to the news, Hiddleston told Marvel.com: “I am so grateful that we got to do Season 1, I still am not quite able to process that we get to have another go at this. I am so excited by the possibilities.
"We are already in discussions. Deep, deep, deep discussions. I can’t wait to get started.”
The Loki actor added: “I want to say thank you to the audience because without the audience, we wouldn’t be able to make a Season 2. I hope Season 1 was full of surprises. And I think Season 2 will be full of even more.”
The confirmation comes after rumours of a second season, with a recent report suggesting it would begin filming in January 2022.
Since its launch, the show has become a huge success for Disney+, with the opening episode netting an impressive record of 731 million minutes of viewing time, beating previous Marvel Disney+ shows The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and WandaVision.
The episode ‘Glorious Purpose’ was also said to have been watched by 14 million Disney+ accounts.
Alongside Hiddleston, Loki stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Owen Wilson, and Sophia Di Martino.
Loki season 1 is streaming exclusively on Disney+. Season 2 has been officially confirmed.
